If you haven’t picked up on it yet, it’s CrossFit Open season!! The 2016 Open starts February 25th and will run for 5 weeks. The CrossFit Open is a worldwide CrossFit competition that is aimed at finding the fittest on earth. Here at CrossFit Junction it is our aim to push you outside your comfort zone, to help you be the best athlete you can be. This event is a great experience for everyone who participates. There is an Rx’d division and a scaled division making it fun for athletes at all levels and abilities, no matter where you are in your fitness journey. We highly encourage everyone to sign up and participate. You can track your progress over the years and see where you stand against other CrossFitters just like you from around the world. Registration is $20 and can be done at games.crossfit.com. If you have participated in previous years you will be able to see how you have grown since then. If you have never participated, then now is the time!
In addition to registering for the crossfit.com event we will be running an in-house competition. For a $10 entry fee, members will be given the opportunity to compete for weekly prizes. Prizes will be awarded for various benchmark achievements, determined according to what the workout is each week. It is our goal to get each and every member outside of their comfort zone so prize-winning categories will be ones that can be achieved by anyone in the gym. We will be doing the Open workouts in the normal Friday classes anyway, so why not register and be part of the intramural fun. To register please get money to Amber by Wednesday, February 24th.
The Open workouts will be on Friday evenings from 5:00 – 8:00 (first heat starting at 5:30). To accommodate this we will be canceling the normal Friday afternoon classes at 4:30pm and 5:30pm as well as the foundations classes at 6:30pm. We will be traveling to other CrossFit gyms in Grand Junction, with each box hosting a Friday night event. While we will still be doing the workouts as part of our regular programming, we highly encourage everyone to attend these Friday Night events. This is a great opportunity to check out other cultures and vibes and part of growing and improving as an athlete and competitor is getting out of your comfort zone.
In addition to the Friday Night Events, CFJ will be holding a second session to hit up your Open workouts on Sunday afternoons from 1:00 – 3:00pm. These two sessions are the only times we can guarantee you will have unlimited access to the necessary equipment and judges for the Open workouts. If necessary we will do our best to accommodate other times to do the Open workouts, but we cannot guarantee availability of equipment or judges as our normal classes will take precedence.

Hey guys! As most of you know one of our former members, Keith Chadd, is in a battle for his life as he has been fighting brain cancer. Keith was living a normal life, working as a Deputy with the Mesa County S.O. prior to his diagnosis last year. Keith is a husband, a father, and an avid hunter. Keith and his wife are currently in Texas where he is about to undergo another brain surgery. He has traveled a rocky road since his diagnosis last year but recently the cancer has spread to other areas of his brain, causing him to have seizures. As a result, Keith & Bridgette have had to extend their stay in Texas. With these hospital visits and surgeries they are faced with a lot of expenses. We want to help. We will be selling entries into a drawing for a free One Year Membership to CrossFit Junction. Each entry is $20. Anyone that purchases 10 or more entries will get one free month at CrossFit Junction. All money collected will go to the Keith Chadd Medical Fund. This fundraiser is open to members of CrossFit Junction as well as anyone is the community. We will be selling entries starting on Monday, January 11th and we will sell them until Saturday, January 23rd. Entries can be purchased during any of our normal class times. Hey guys! As we are fully into a new year now we wanted to share a new program with you guys! Starting next Monday, January 11th we will be launching a Foundations program. On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday nights at 6:30pm we will be offering classes that are designed to help with the understanding and the practice of CrossFit movements. This will be the class that new CrossFitters will attend but we also encourage any current members to jump into classes should they feel like they need additional instruction on some of the movements. There will be 6 classes that will rotate, with classes repeating every two weeks. Each class will focus on different foundational movements. This will be a great way for new and current members to have more in-depth instruction on some movements that are more difficult to teach in a larger group setting. This class WILL NOT replace the regular 6:30pm class. The Foundations Class will be taught in the OLY room. This will also be a great class to invite your friends and family too as it will be smaller than our normal classes. These classes are included in our CFJ unlimited membership but for non-members wanting to do the 6-session cycle the cost is$60. If you have any questions please let Cody, Amber, or Matt know.
Its Nutrition Challenge time again!!
This year CFJ will be hosting a Whole 30 Nutrition Challenge and we would love for you guys to join in!
There will be a $10 buy-in from each participant and the winners will receive a cash prize. We will have a male and a female winner. We will base the winner on 1) inches lost 2) body fat lost 3) commitment to the program.
We will weigh and measure on January 3rd from 1pm-2pm. If you can’t make it during that time frame you will need to make arrangements with Amber to do so before the 6th.
The challenge will run from January 4th- February 4th.
Please take a few minutes to look at the Whole 30 Website before the 4th because this challenge will take some mental prep as well as some food prep.
This challenge is centered on a whole-foods program where your food intake will consist of meats, fruits and veggies as your primary source of calories (check out the website above for specifics)
We encourage you to use a food tracking app like My Fitness Pal as a way to hold yourself accountable for what is going into your mouth. Tracking your food will be part of the criteria for judging a winner.
We would also like you guys to connect on FB under the CFJ Nutrition Challenge group. If you are not already a member of that group please let us know and we will add you. As part of the challenge we would like each participant to log at least 5 entries per week talking about how the challenge is going, give tips tricks, or recipes, and just stay connected in general. In order to win the challenge this is a requirement.
