I have heard this one referred to as the “Velvet Dagger”….

400 meter Walking lunge

Post time and number of steps.

Caigen getting his chin all of the way over the bar during ‘Helen’.

When you guys are in the middle of a brutal workout and the chips are down, do you have a mantra (a short positive statement) that you say to yourself to keep on keepin’ on? Post your personal words of motivation to comments.

“You can motivate by fear. And you can motivate by reward. But both of these methods are only temporary. The only lasting thing is self-motivation.” — Homer Rice.

  1. I do happen to have something I say to myself, it goes like this….”Damn I don’t want to have to start carrying my own gym bag again”. That gets me right through it.

  2. I don’t know that I have a particular mantra… typically I just yell at myself using profanities in my mind. haha

  3. I just keep chanting in my mind, “you suck, you’re weak, everyone is stronger than you.” Then I usually come close to passing out.

  4. “Helen” this was 10min. & some change! tough WOD… good job buddy! I heard stories of how hard you went @ this one.

  5. Thom–Caigen has been doing a great job lately! Showing some of us up with that weight vest!
Its been great to see you pushing so hard buddy! Nice job Caigen!

Uhm, Pretty sure my hips would punish me for a year if I did this one today! So I’ll catch you guys tomorrow!

As for mantra, I have come to use this quote a lot these days to keep motivated, and the end part is what goes through my head “If you are going through hell keep going!”

“A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty. Continuous effort–not strength or intelligence–is the key to unlocking our potential.” If you are going through hell keep going!” –Sir Winston Churchill

I believe every moment in our day counts and determines something for who we are and who we will be, that every decision builds on itself, so no matter what when I’m in the moment, I think–So what if its not my day today, if I quit it most certainly won’t be my day tomorrow! That and when I see you guys being so awesome I think, how can I ask to defend these people if I’m not showing them I’m worth their trust and going balls out every day, even when its crap I’m not good at and things that seem impossible.
